The Snooze Dock: An Alarm Clock Stand For Your iPhone
If you weren’t a fan of Wake , an alarm clock app that tries its hardest to not let you sleep in, you might like the Snooze Dock by Distilunion a bit more. The Snooze Dock is a wooden iPhone stand that has a built-in functioning snooze button. The dock is crafted from real wood and is paired with a sleek, two-color design. The top of the dock houses the soft plastic snooze button while the rear of the device lets you run a sync cable to your phone, allowing you to charge your iPhone while you sleep. Not only is the Snooze Dock a hardware accessory, but it has a pretty awesome software aspect as well. The dock can be used with both the official Snooze Dock app as well as the popular third-party app TouchLCD. The Snooze app is free, though it has a very limited feature set. TouchLCD is $1.99 in the App Store and features a speaking alarm clock. If you’d like to purchase a Snooze Dock for your iPhone 4, 4S or 5, expect to drop $39.99 for one via Distilunion’s website . The dock is available in three colors: Maple and White, Maple and Black, and Daylight. Continue reading

Best Buy to begin month-long iPhone sale on Sunday
AllThingsD is reporting that Best Buy plans to begin a monthlong iPhone sale on Sunday . iPhone prices will drop by US$50 when bought in conjunction with a two-year contract from AT&T, Sprint or Verizon. All current models of the iPhone — iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 — are included. This coming Monday in the United States is Memorial Day, and the weekend prior is a big shoppers’ weekend. Best Buy is also offering discounts on several popular Android handsets, but those discounts are expected to expire on June 1. There’s no word on why Best Buy’s iPhone sale will carry on for an entire month, but it could be that the company is trying to move inventory before any potential iPhone announcements this summer. Best Buy Offering $50 Off Apple’s iPhone Starting On Sunday
Best Buy is about to offer $50 off Apple’s iPhone in a four-week promotion that will start this Sunday. iPhones eligible for the price cut includes the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5 when purchased with a two-year contract with Verizon, AT&T or Sprint. Best Buy will also kick off a few short-term promotions over Memorial Day by dropping the price on a number of older Android models. Starting on May 26 to June 1, Best Buy will sell Samsung’s Galaxy S III for $49 on AT&T or Sprint, which is also a $50 price cut. At the same time, it will also offer the HTC Droid DNA with Verizon for $49, which is $150 in savings, and the HTC One X with AT&T for free, which is a $100 price cut. The price cuts come at the same time as Samsung’s Galaxy S4 becomes available with a number of carriers. Apple is also expected to launch the next-generation iPhone this fall, which leads carriers to reduce the price of the iPhone 5 in order to boost sales ahead of an upcoming release. More and more carriers will likely reduce prices as we near a potential release date. Image Credit: Digital Trends Continue reading

iPhone repair costs are soaring
Marketwatch recently took a look at the rising price of iPhone 5 screen repairs , pointing out that the US$229 Apple sometimes charges to repair a broken iPhone 5 screen is often more than the cost of the device itself, with a two-year contract of course. At the root of rising iPhone repair costs are more expensive components coupled with a lower supply of said components. The replacement components for the iPhone 5 are much more expensive than similar parts for prior models — so expensive in fact that many independent repair services cannot compete. “Due to the high cost of replacement parts, we are not yet offering iPhone 5 repairs,” according to a statement on ComputerOverhauls.com, an online repair shop. “Currently, the Apple Store is the least expensive option for repairing damaged iPhone 5s.” Other services charge as much as $250 for the repair. The article also relays that the iPhone 5 is actually easier to fix than previous iPhone models. Replacing a display on the iPhone 4S, for example, involves 37 steps. Oh cruel irony. All told, AppleCare+ for iPhone owners is steadily looking like the smart play. I opted not to get AppleCare when I picked up my iPhone 4S. Then, 15 months later, the screen cracked after I clumsily let it slip out of my hand. With AppleCare+, which costs $99, Apple extends warranty coverage on the iPhone to two years, a plan which covers two incidents of accidental damage along with a $49 service fee. Damage not caused by human error or clumsiness is not subject to an additional service fee. iPhone repair costs are soaring originally appeared on TUAW – The Unofficial Apple Weblog on Fri, 24 May 2013 09:00:00 EST. iPhones get 4G data on AT&T’s GoPhone plan from today
Engadget reports that iPhone users can now get HSPA+ and LTE data on AT&T’s revamped GoPhone prepaid plans. The company had previously excluded iPhones from data access on these plans. The $65 plan includes 1Gb data, while other plans require either an add-on data package or attract a data charge of 1¢ per 5kb. The $50 plan is for featurephones only. Click through for the plans … Continue reading

Apple Maps 3D flyover coverage significantly expanded in California
Disneyland and Santa Monica Pier If you like to check out locations before you visit them, or wander down memory lane afterwards, you’ll be able to do so in quite a few new areas of California, as Apple Insider notes significantly expanded flyover coverage in the State. The new support includes San Bernardino, Riverside, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario and Moreno Valley, among others. With the additions, Maps offers nearly unbroken Flyover coverage of cities from San Bernardino to the Pacific Ocean … As with the previous expansion of the flyover feature in Paris and surrounding areas of France, the update was a silent one, so it’s possible that other areas have been added too – please let us know if you spot any. The flyover feature is supported only in iOS6. Apple has been working hard on developing its Maps product after widespread disappointment in the accuracy of the launch version. Continue reading

AT&T adding iPhone, 4G LTE / HSPA+ support to GoPhone starting tomorrow
AT&T’s official GoPhone prepaid policy has always officially prevented network data access for iPhones (and other 4G devices except for BlackBerry), but a tipster reports that will change tomorrow. The new policy adds 4G HSPA+ and LTE support as well as Visual Voicemail access to the GoPhone package , with customers able to bring their own device or buy a new one at off-contract unsubsidized prices. According to the details, existing customers with iPhones will be automatically updated with network access on June 21st, however they’ll be able to call in and make the switch manually before that. The new features work on the $65, $50 and $25 monthly plans, however the two lower priced options will require data packages to work. You can get a peek at the leaked terms after the break, although we’d wait for an official announcement before picking up your 4G-capable handset and requesting service. Pioneer’s AppRadio 3 adds MirrorLink, Siri Eyes Free and more
While Pioneer did announce at CES 2013 that its AppRadio 2 smartphone-powered in-dash unit would support the iPhone 5 , the company was hush on any additional updates. Now, however, it has finally unveiled AppRadio 3, which is set to arrive in two models oh-so-descriptively named SPH-DA110 and SPH-DA210. Both retain the same functionality as the AppRadio 2 but add compatibility with MirrorLink enabled devices, thus expanding AppRadio ‘s repertoire of supported products. Other notable features include integration with Siri Eyes Free for iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 owners, Google Voice Search for those with compatible Android phones, Bluetooth audio streaming and an enhanced touchscreen interface that allows easier access to smartphone features like apps, music and making calls. As with its predecessor, the AppRadio 3 has a 7-inch WVGA (800 x 480) capacitive display, a built-in AM/FM tuner and dual pre-amp outputs. The SPH-DA210 model also includes a CD/DVD mechanism if you still have those dinosaur age discs lying around. The SPH-DA110 and SPH-DA210 will be available in July for around $399 and $499 respectively, while smartphone connectivity cables range from $30 to $60. If you’re thinking of making an upgrade to your current head unit, have a closer look at the gallery below or check the press release after the break.
